What we mean by "legal"
In Calgary, a suite is legal when it is (a) permitted by the land use district of the property, (b) built or renovated to Alberta Building Code and City permit requirements, and (c) listed on the City of Calgary Secondary Suite Registry. Any suite missing one of those pieces is either "non-conforming" or outright illegal — and the distinction matters for insurance, financing and resale.
